Fix this for better motion projects

6 or 7 points on common things Designers tend to do when starting out in Motion Design

Some notes from the audio

📌 The 7 Key Points

  1. Creativity is not the issue… Lack of repetition is

Designers new to motion often have great ideas but need more repetition to truly absorb and apply principles.

  2. Inconsistent internal logic

Animations often break their own internal rules. E.g., a bounce behaves differently each time.

  3. Not exploring the full range of a principle

People apply principles (like squash and stretch) at a minimal or safe level. I suggest pushing to the extreme first, then taking a bit back.

  4. Principles are not checkboxes

It’s not about “using” anticipation or follow-through, it’s about understanding why and how.

  5. Why a practice group matters

The Practice File creates a safe space to try, share, and see different approaches to the same challenge, which is more useful than isolated learning. Check info below ⬇️

  6. It’s not about technique, it’s about decisions

Every design/animation choice is a decision. The more we make, the better our understanding. That takes time and visual referencing.

  7. Analyze other people’s work

Learn to watch with intention: “What are they doing here?”
